The Coalition of Northern Groups (CNG) has cautioned against any attempt to undermine the electronic transmission of election results ahead of the 2027 general elections, describing it as critical to credible polls.

In a statement issued yesterday, the group’s National Coordinator, Comrade Jamilu Aliyu Charanchi, said Nigeria’s electoral challenges largely arise at the collation stage, where results are often allegedly manipulated. According to him, electronic transmission helps prevent tampering once results leave polling units and strengthens public trust in the process.

CNG expressed concern over what it described as signals and legislative moves by some political actors to dilute the full implementation of e-transmission, warning that such actions could erode transparency and deepen distrust in elections.

The group urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to deploy electronic transmission without dilution and called on the National Assembly to avoid any measures that could weaken electoral transparency.

It also warned that repeated disputed elections could fuel post-election violence and legitimacy crises, insisting it would resist any attempt to reverse electoral reforms and calling on civil society, the media and citizens to remain vigilant ahead of 2027.
